
PSC enters Guinness records - says Leader of the Opposition
Speaking further Wickeramasinghe expressed these views
Recently parliamentarian Wijedasa Rajapaksa handed over a draft bill
to the Secretary General of Parliament with regards to the removal of high court judges.
The draft bill presented by parliamentarian Wijedasa Rajapaksa which was tabled as a private members motion in parliament introduces a new mechanism
to vacate a chief justice in the event of improper conduct or incapacity.
Under the draft bill presented in this regard, when charges are being pressed against a chief justice an investigative panel consisting of three persons is called to be appointed.
These persons according to the provisions of the bill would consist of
non Sri Lankan citizens, especially judges of the Commonwealth Federation or individuals of similar stature.
It also notes that the Bar Association should be able to express its views before the panel.
Meanwhile the Students Federation for the Protection of Human Rights commented on the impeachment motion filed against the Chief Justice.
Chairman of the Federation Nuwan bopearachchi expressed the following views to the media.
Moreover the opposition as well as trade unions engaged in a protest adjacent to the Lipton Circus in Colombo.
However, Chairman of PSC Minister Anura Pryadarshana Yapa expressed the following views regarding the PSC’s report and the opposition’s move to vacate it.
