
542 thousand 260 candidates sit the Ordinary level examination today.
The GCE Ordinary Level examination 2012 will commence today.Examinations Commissioner W M J Pushpakumara said the examination will be held in 4,048 centres islandwide.
Over 542,200 candidates will sit this year’s exam. Of this, 387,593 are school applicants.
Meanwhile carrying hand phones into exam halls has been banned for candidates and teachers on supervision.
The Examinations Department said it is compulsory for candidates to carry a National Identity Card or a valid passport to prove their identity.
Only candidates who have not reached 16 years by October 31st could produce Postal Identity Cards issued by the Postal Department at the examination.
