Obstructions to court activities in several areas; A one hour protest islandwide tomorrow as well.


Court activities were faced with obstruction as a result of lawyers in various areas boycotting their duties in protest against the impeachment against the Chief Justice.

While lawyers in several courts have decided to refrain from their duties tomorrow as well, lawyers island-wide will engage in a one-hour agitation.

Lawyers at the Colombo High Court, Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court and District Court are scheduled to refrain from their duties the whole of tomorrow.

Colombo High Court Bar Association Secretary Attorney-at-law Karunaratne Lansaakaara spoke to our news team with regard to the boycott as follows:


In addition while a special meeting of the High Court Bar Association will be held tomorrow, the decision with regard to the line of action they will adopt in the future will be taken at this meeting.

In addition Northern Province lawyers have decided to refrain from their duties from today till Friday.

In addition lawyers of the Galle, Matara and Mt. Lavinia district courts refrained from their duties.

In addition a group of lawyers had also convened a media conference in Colombo today.

Participating at the media briefing Attorney-at-law J. C. Weliamuna said that the BASL had officially decided to refrain from their duties for one hour from 10 to 11 tomorrow morning.


The line of action that should be adopted in the future with regard to the impeachment against the Chief Justice will be decided upon at the BASL general convention that has been convened for 15th this month.
